Last week, I photographed the Neelsville Presbyterian Church for my Maryland Mondays project.  I found this interesting bit of Germantown history and the church which is a historical landmark.

Over in the area around Rt. 355 a growing number of people of the Presbyterian faith were settling in the early 1800s, and a Presbyterian Church made of logs was built at the intersection of Rt. 355 and Neelsville Church Road in 1845. The present church was built in 1878 and the cemetery behind the church contains the graves of many of the early settlers of Germantown. The Neelsville Presbyterian Church and the Darnestown Presbyterian Church were served by the same minister. So a road was built by local farmers to connect the two churches. This road is Rt. 118 (Germantown Road) [the section of this road from the railroad to Clopper Road is now known as Liberty Mill Road].

Here is an old image of the church and below, my current-day rendition. There is now an addition to the right side of the old build and a newer building to the far right. (left in image)

A foggy Maryland morning.  I shot this image at a farm off Comus road this morning while taking the dog to the vet.  The image was then pulled into photoshop and given a painterly look. This is also number 23 of my 365 project.

Day 21 of my 365 project.  Woke up this morning to a mess.  Just enough snow to be a mess. If it’s gonna snow, then lets get 6″-12″ or more.

And here’s my rottie playing in the snow. I didn’t realize she was going to charge me and missed the focus. I’ll have to get her again later today with a better focused shot.

too cold to ride.

I prepped the bike and headed out to Woodsboro, MD this morning, where I would meet up with others to escort the remains of  SPC Ronald H. Wildrick, Jr., USA, 30, Blairstown, NJ, who gave all on December 11, 2011.  I figured that even though I don’t have any cold weather riding gear, if I layered up, I could handle it. Well, guess what?  I got as far as the Hyattstown exit on Interstate 270 and decided that it was just too cold for this old guy.  I knew I would never be able to make another 30 plus minutes so I turned back.  After getting caught in the rain on Wednesday on the way back from Woodsboro, I decided that I would be pushing my luck and my health to go any further.

Oh well, there’s my Day 13 picture.
